![]() ![]() When the track properly kicks in, the bassline, vocals, and high-hat all stand out in the mix, but the guitar strums' mids settle in the background. The opening acoustic guitar plucks have a good sense of resonance in the lower frequencies, and loads of crisp string texture in the higher frequencies. Yes’ “Roundabout” gives a good sense of the Cloud Alpha Wireless’ general sound signature, which is balanced but quite sculpted. At maximum (and unsafe) volume levels, the headset doesn’t show a hint of distortion. The kick drum hits and bass synth notes in our bass test track, The Knife’s “Silent Shout,” sound powerful and palpable. The headset’s 50mm drivers can pump out impressive, low-frequency thump. This is a good microphone for both voice chat, recording, and streaming, though we recommend that serious content creators get a dedicated USB microphone for better sound quality than any consumer headset boom mic. Test recordings of my voice were clear and crisp, and showed no sign of fan noise from my laptop. The noise-canceling boom mic sounds excellent. DTS Headphone:X and THX Spatial Audio, along with Dolby Atmos for Headphones, can all be purchased for use on Windows PCs, and its inclusion is welcome. ![]() A radio button in the app turns on DTS’ simulated surround technology, a feature similar to the THX Spatial Audio included with the Razer Kraken V3 Pro. The bigger appeal is the software's DTS Headphone:X implementation. You can use it to tweak the headset’s audio with a selection, presets, or 10-band EQ, and toggle mic monitoring on and off. The HyperX Ngenuity app provides simple customization options. The headset lacks wired connection options. The transmitter also works with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, though the headset's DTS Headphone:X feature is only available on PC. The Cloud Alpha Wireless includes a 2.4GHz USB transmitter for wireless use with a PC. Regardless, that time will considerably shrink if you up the volume. ![]() That’s an astounding number, and while we've not directly confirmed it, the headset has certainly lasted long without its battery level dipping during our tests. The right earcup has only a simple volume wheel.Īccording to HyperX, the Cloud Alpha Wireless’ battery can last up to 300 hours at 50% volume. The left earcup holds most of the headset’s connections and controls along its bottom edge, including a USB-C port for charging, a 3.5mm connector for the detachable boom mic, a power button, and a mic mute button. I found the Cloud Alpha Wireless slightly snug, but comfortable. At 11.8 ounces, the Cloud Alpha Wireless is lighter than the Kraken V3 Pro, but heavier than the Razer Barracuda X and wired Astro Gaming A10. They lack the Razer Kraken V3 Pro's big, thick memory foam/gel pads, but feature enough soft foam to cushion the headset against the sides of your head. The leatherette-covered earpads are lightly, but appropriately, padded. Short, fabric-covered wires run from the tops of the cups to the headband, connecting the electronics. The headset has a black-and-red color scheme, with large, oval-shaped earcups matte black rubberized sides black, semi-gloss back panels and red, skeletal metal struts. The Cloud Alpha Wireless looks and feels almost identical to the Cloud II Wireless, down to the headset's red stitching on black faux leather. Still, the Cloud Alpha Wireless produces excellent audio, and for that alone it's worth a purchase. For A$288 that’s surprisingly limiting, especially when similarly priced headsets, such as the JBL Quantum 800 and Steelseries Arctis 7+, double as Bluetooth headphones. The Cloud Alpha Wireless also works with PlayStation 4/5, but several of its audio features aren't compatible with those consoles, and it lacks a 3.5mm connection as a wired backup for broader compatibility. If the PC is your main gaming platform, this headset is for you. It sounds great, has a clear mic, and features DTS Headphone:X simulated surround technology. The HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless is a wireless gaming headset for the PC, and an excellent one at that. ![]()
